GROW CEBU MUSIC: The School Tour & The Music Summit

The month of July marks the anniversary of Cebu Music Creators Growth Summit (CMCGS), a momentous and meaningful event which sealed the partnership between 22 Tango Records and Create Cebu.

CMCGS is a music conference and workshop designed for the Cebuano music creator. Its main objective was to empower the local music creator, inspire them to hone their craft, and equip themselves with the necessary knowledge as musicians in the modern world.

Last year’s summit featured a full day of workshops that touched on both creative and technical topics, hands-on application, and a re-examination of one’s musical output and direction in the industry. It ended with a showcase of homegrown music by both new and established local performers.

With the intention of having a long-term impact that can shape perceptions, 22 Tango Records and Create Cebu will be holding another summit for 2017 to push even further their common advocacy of developing a healthy creative economy in and for Cebu.

Now renamed to Grow Cebu Music: The Summit, it is poised to transform into a year-long campaign that includes a school tour involving major universities across the city, called Grow Cebu Music: The School Tour. The involvement of these educational institutions is key in making a positive contribution to the sustainability of the arts in the city.

The school tour, which will begin in September, will serve as a prequel to the summit, which will take place in December 2017 during Create Cebu’s Criss-Crossings: A Craft and Culture Walkabout, a gathering and celebration of the city’s makers and propagators of creativity and culture.

Stay tuned for more details soon.
